We have been to Perkins in Lawrence and Olathe. Mostly for pies, desserts and coffee. I am mystified however when the couple of times we have eaten at this place, everything and I mean everything literally has no flavor and tastes like cardboard. Frankly I don't know how they do this.

The pies and coffee are the best -forget the rest

Wendy's frosty are thee thing to get
Many years ago this place had a salad bar I believe. I've been here several times of the years not for the salad but sometimes burgers but mostly those luscious Frostys. There was a show about it once and it was explained how they have a special way of mixing it up to give these delectable drink/ desserts/ ice cream (it's all for me) their characteristically different shake like consistency. It's just different and it is my favorite. We have had the salads BTW in Wichita, from different conferences that catered Wendy's and they have been pretty good. But when I think of Wendy's it's the Frosty I think about.Actually the Chili (all you can eat ) is pretty good and taste and meaty t00.
Seems like there are other ways to make a Frosty

Here is the copy cat recipe

I am surprised . It can ‘t be this easy to make , can it?

Found this copycat recipe and HAD to post it for all the Frosties lovers! Note that the recipe does not specify what flavour ice cream to use, but I'm guessing vanilla, or perhaps chocolate. Try both! Prep time includes softening time of ice cream.
SERVES 6 (change servings and units)
Ingredients
• 1 cup milk
• 1/2 cup Nestles Quik
• 3 cups ice cream, softened in fridge for one hour
Directions
1. 1
Put all ingredients in blender; blend until Quik is incorporated; serve immediately.

Love the coffee not Starbucks

This MacDonalds is convenient going to and from Kansas City/ Lawrence and when I am stormchasing. Grab a quick bite, easy. I've eaten at many other McDonald's over the years (who hasn't) in Lawrence, Kansas City and elsewhere. I have been here and at other time based on the new foods and beverages etc that come out while trying some of the ones that have been out for years, once in awhile. I am not much for chains but breakfast is a little different story. With family we go out, but by myself or with the two of us, we hit the local fast foods more often then not. I don't like Starbucks coffees. I really like and think the McCafe coffees and iced Mocha and iced coffees are very good. Who hasn't been to McDonald's for other food? When my kids were younger they wanted to go not for the food but mostly for the prizes/gifts that came with them. This drove me crazy. Now they are in college, so I go when I want. Times have changes as McDonald's now doles out healthy snacks and meals. Still the Saturated fats make up many entrees. I get burgers once in awhile but they are still not my favorite. They regular hamburgers are cheap ( I prefer charbroiled ones). Once in awhile I will get a Big Mac or quarter pounder but definitely not the healthiest thing. The fries, people say are the best, I rarely eat (want something better try sweet potato fries- hmm why doesn't McDonald's have them?). Not many know, it's the shakes that really made the company grow as the they bought the best shake-maker of that time and that along with the fries really "exploded the business upward". I rarely get the shakes (I prefer the Wendy's Frosty). One item I might try is the new Lunch honey mustard snack wraps and compare them to other chains.

Panera Bread- I love the bagels but the rest of the food escapes me
Panera came to town several years and spread around the city. I'm not into chains but I do love a bagel as much as anyone. I love buying the bagels here to bring home or nosh on. I really absolutely love the Asiago bagels (even though this kind has a very high fat and calorie content). I loved taking them home and make a tomatol, lettuce and possibly tuna fish sandwich - but I digress. There are many other good types that are very good. But as for buying a sandwich or a combo it's just not my type of restaurant. I want something special when I pay cash and I want something different to eat then the normal. I possibly tried one of the soup bread bowls once but can't for the life of me remember what I ate inside it. I love the bagels. Those I can remember. Its the rest of the food that my memory has escaped me.

Never been back to Chili's because of slimy appetizer
I am not really into these chain restaurants. Many people like chains because you know what you are getting from city and state to state. However that is not always true because the quality and consistency in some are better then others or in this case worse. I know it is tough for restaurant like Chilis to be able to dish out all different types of entrees. We have eaten at this one and others ( Overland Park, Lawrence). But we haven't been back since are last visit with friends. Why? Because they had the slimiest and unappetizing set of their mexican egg rolls that we ordered. There were really so disgusting I can't remember more about the meals we have before. All I know I'm not going back unless there is something new, really spectacular and good on the menu.

Jose Pepper- for a chain the Mexican food is mighty fine
I like Mexican fare but I usually won't go to the chains. The quality can really differ from the different chains or even ones within a city or town. However we went with friends to the Jose Pepper in Olathe (off of Black Bob and near I35 . This one is has superb food. It is always packed, full of people, since the day it opened and rightly so. I can understand that because it has very tasty food and good portions at great prices. Great "tomatoey" salsa and chips. Good enchilada and other entrees. We were all happy with our dinners. I do like this place and is really good for a chain. But I will look elsewhere unless my friends call again. I could see coming here while watching some ballgames on the big screen. Its probably just a matter of time until I come back. I mean a lot of people pack in this place at dinner or lunch and I know they are repeaters. Someday when there is a good game.
