Love the coffee not Starbucks

McDonald's on UrbanspoonThis MacDonalds is convenient going to and from Kansas City/ Lawrence and when I am stormchasing. Grab a quick bite, easy. I've eaten at many other McDonald's over the years (who hasn't) in Lawrence, Kansas City and elsewhere. I have been here and at other time based on the new foods and beverages etc that come out while trying some of the ones that have been out for years, once in awhile. I am not much for chains but breakfast is a little different story. With family we go out, but by myself or with the two of us, we hit the local fast foods more often then not. I don't like Starbucks coffees. I really like and think the McCafe coffees and iced Mocha and iced coffees are very good. Who hasn't been to McDonald's for other food? When my kids were younger they wanted to go not for the food but mostly for the prizes/gifts that came with them. This drove me crazy. Now they are in college, so I go when I want. Times have changes as McDonald's now doles out healthy snacks and meals. Still the Saturated fats make up many entrees. I get burgers once in awhile but they are still not my favorite. They regular hamburgers are cheap ( I prefer charbroiled ones). Once in awhile I will get a Big Mac or quarter pounder but definitely not the healthiest thing. The fries, people say are the best, I rarely eat (want something better try sweet potato fries- hmm why doesn't McDonald's have them?). Not many know, it's the shakes that really made the company grow as the they bought the best shake-maker of that time and that along with the fries really "exploded the business upward". I rarely get the shakes (I prefer the Wendy's Frosty). One item I might try is the new Lunch honey mustard snack wraps and compare them to other chains.

Arby's recipes: the anti burger sandwhich and more

Arby's on UrbanspoonKnown for its roast beef, like many others I have been to Arby's for a little bite. But for some reason, I can't quite get it out of my mind that the roast beef should not be pink but but have a "light shade of brown" like regular roast beef. Am I wrong?

Once in a while I like to pop into Arby's location for their fabulous Jamoca shakes, especially when there is a coupon. They are very creamy, chocolaty and almost as good as Wendy's. (They are not quite as creamy thick and have a little different consistency). I wish they had a $1 menu. Well they sort of do but you can pick from a wide array 5 for $5. But when I just interested in one this what I get for $1. I have eaten the salads once and they are not bad.

The curly fries are "to die for" and have just right crispness. I also love the sauces like horsey sauce (horseradish sauce) which is not too hot but gives a sandwich a mild extra zing of heat. But the 3 pepper sauce is to die for an is very, very addictive for me. This three pepper sauce which is absolutely awesome and is a good blend of different peppers, heat, flavor and goes well along on a sandwich , with fries etc (I wish they would bottle it as I would buy it!). That reminds me maybe I can find a recipe for it. But before that, I found an interesting article on horseradish and more at ( under culinary uses)

Arby's sauce is one of my favs on their roast beef sandwiches or whatever..I've been known to put it on a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit... I got this recipe in an e-mail earlier. I am trying it right now.....

Ingredients
1 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons water
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco pepper sauce

Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce begins to boil, 5 to 10 minutes.
Remove the sauce from the heat. Cover and allow to cool.
Pour into a covered container for storage in your refrigerator.
Keeps for a month or two.

Sonic's Java Chiller is awesome but the foot long Hot dog is "not so hot"

The Java Chiller is an awesome coffee drink. The Mocha flavor is smooth and mixes well with this chilled drink. Even my wife liked it and she does not drink coffee. There are two other flavors too but they does melt as well. The onion rings are not too bad but they are fried a little bit too crispy. I feel that some of the items are overprices (like the regular burgers without lettuce and tomato). But watch out for the foot long hot dog. It probably is the worst hot dog I have ever tasted. It tastes too loose, its kind of slimy, soft and does not taste like a real hot dog. (I prefer good all beef ones). The onion rings are not too bad but they are fried a little bit too crispy. I feel that some of the items are overprices (like the regular burgers without lettuce and tomato). There is a new dollar menu but I have not tried any of the fare. I am not much for dining in my car, especially in cold winter. But I would try the Java Chiller anytime.

Gourmet, gluttony, culinary obsesssion or does he just likes McDonalds?

In Parade magazine, P. 11 " A serious Mac Attack". This Wisconsin guy said he has eaten more then 23,000 Big Macs. Dom Gorske of Fond Du Lac said he started this obsession on 5/17/1972 (not sure why) and has eaten them every day. He needs two fill him up and has kept all the receipts to prove it. He has come back though not with the burgers but by not eating fries. I like McDonalds as they are tasty but they are not my favorite burger. Well as long as he's happy.

eat more beef- only kidding- this places best is the chicken

Chick-Fil-a on UrbanspoonI have been here several times to nibble on their small "chicken -little" (get it?) sandwiches. They are toasty have the right amount of crunch and nice chicken meat inside their flaky . Very tasty and the chicken is moist and has a lot of flavor in their biscuits. Each order is made while you wait (not long). There are sandwiches, breakfast items and more. The prices are reasonable. It is difficult to know what times they are open though. I will stop by for little nibbles in the future and maybe something bigger. I love their cow ads BTW. Creative. But its the chicken that stand out.

Backyard Burgers : great tasting burgers, reasonable prices locally

Back Yard Burgers on UrbanspoonWe don't go for fast food very often. The menu is wide and has a variety menu items with reasonable prices. The burgers are some of the best mostly because I like the grill flavor. Considering they are a chain but I feel that the burgers are on step above the ordinary burger at a good price. The charcoal like flavor and of course the taste are awesome . There are several different types which are unusual. The fries here are much crispier and flavorful ( I never have McDonald or other french fries) and worth every cent. When I was a good burger, at reasonable prices, I know where to find one of these locally literally in our backyard .
