Gourmet, gluttony, culinary obsesssion or does he just likes McDonalds?
In Parade magazine, P. 11 " A serious Mac Attack". This Wisconsin guy said he has eaten more then 23,000 Big Macs. Dom Gorske of Fond Du Lac said he started this obsession on 5/17/1972 (not sure why) and has eaten them every day. He needs two fill him up and has kept all the receipts to prove it. He has come back though not with the burgers but by not eating fries. I like McDonalds as they are tasty but they are not my favorite burger. Well as long as he's happy.

Hamburger perfection
I was trying to find some Hamburger perfection tonight.
I found some recipes in the 60 minutes Gourmet by Pierre Franey which might wife must have bought and which I have never tried.
There was an interesting burger recipe Steak Hache avec Oeufs a Cheval (I could actually use my french). This one called for making a burger. It called for something (taking it to the next level hopefully) and making a sauce topping with
4 tspn butter
4 eggs
6-12 anchovy fillets
2 tblspn capers
1 tblspn parsley
The book has an introduction by Craig Claiborne.
I took out my book which I have used sparingly The Tabasco Cookbook and found that Claiborne's Ultimately Hamburger.
It's recipe including using butter, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco (hey that is what this book is all about it) , juice of 1 lemon and parsley.
So I decided to blend both recipes. Craig's was in the burger itself and the Franey would go on the top. I liked the dash of saltiness, the egg and burger. It was different 9/10.
I then found a yahoo blog with Jeffrey Steingarten (whom I see a lot on Iron Chef America) while searching for his blog. This blog piece was very interesting.
http://food.yahoo.com/blog/ahamburgertoday/4653/vogue-s-8-steps-to-hamburger-perfection
He suggested adding a bit of water to the meat.
Another chef, he found, says flip it every 30 seconds to char the outside and keep the inside moist.
Pepperidge Farm's Farmhouse Sandwich Rolls (not the company's classic hamburger buns) are said to be the best.
He liked using a blend of two parts chuck, two parts boneless short rib, and one part brisket.
Meanwhile there are reviews from chains.
http://food.yahoo.com/blog/ahamburgertoday/40/national-burger-chain-taste-test
Well they don't do many of them but some that they are found include Red Robin and ones around here. I was once in Red Robin and don't think much of it at all. Yeah they have a great variety but they are too pricey. I am not interested in paying $8 and more for a burger that really costs $4 or less.
Of course there are some exceptions so if you find them, let me know.
I think Backyard Burger (not mentioned in blog) is good. They haver a good char flavor.
I like to make my own. I don't usually have a burger when I go out to a restaurant. I am usually looking for something ethnic or different. Burgers I can make at home.

Big eats
These were features on the Travel Channel.
I have not been to this big buffet
http://www.broadmoor.com/lake-terrace.php
I have been to this famous restaurant in Las Vegas the Bellagio in Las Vegas. I still can't believe that some friends too us out to an absolutely horrendous restaurant with old cars on a wall and dreadful food instead of this places restaurant.
http://www.bellagio.com/restaurants/the-buffet.aspx?CMP=KNC-Google-Bellagio-Corp
Biggest burger (10.5 lbs) is a monster and even could not eat the whole thing (people are given 4 hours!) ! However there is a bigger one for 123 lbs!
http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com/
Castaway buffet has an amazing overlook and food looks good too.
http://www.castawaysriverside.com/banquet.html
Brazilian BBQ (there is now several here in the Kansas City area starting at $38 dinner or $19 for lunch)
http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/35816157/glendale_ca/gaucho_s_village_brazilian_churrascaria_steak_house_.html
But I love the Japanese chinese buffet in Lawrence, Kansas with their all your can eat sushi and very good asian salmon and other asian fare.
As for the best Italian, some people disagree with me but I think there is not a better place for Italian food then Cinzzettis
http://www.cinzzettis.com/indexKansas.php
When I want good food at a good price and great variety we try Cinzetti's in Overland Park, KS.
Just look at the menu of offerings
http://www.cinzzettis.com/ourMenu.php
(some are not available at lunch)
When we really want to go for Italian fare, we take our kids and guests here. Not only is there an amazing variety of choices but the quality is amazing. When we took out my brother-in-law he could not believe the variety but then exclaimed " and you get that you want to choose from the desserts too for the same price?". I usually start with awesome calamari, tomato soup, salad and then the spedini and everything else. I usually do tapas and go around starting with salads and then sampling all different types.

Ann Arbor, MI's Crazy Jim's Blimpy Burger
I lived in around Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1976-1981 before I left for Kansas. I got my master's degree in science education, was an assistant tennis coach and later taught science at several community college programs. I also like to eat, cooked and went to restaurants.
I was there a few years ago twice.
I was at Zingerman's which is fantastic and has so much to offer. We tried real good Mexican, Fish, Thai and more.
At one Mexican resturant, I remember I asked if they had hot sauces. They said sure and gave me a milk plastic crate with about 20 in them. I started trying a bunch of them . Not bad. Well... until one of them started to really hit me. I rushed the bathroom and sat on the toilet as sweat poured down my face for a minute. And then I was fine. But now for a memorable place that I did not visit.

Next time I am up there you can be sure I am going to Crazy Jim's

This website said what I saw on the food channel.
This website said echoed what I saw on the food channel.
"Crazy Jim's Blimpy Burger: Although not really a restaurant, no review on food in Ann Arbor would be complete without mentioning Blimpy's. Offering the greasiest and greatest burgers in Ann Arbor, this hamburger stand has a unique method of preparing its burger. Rather than making one large patty, Blimpy's makes several patties per burger.
When ordering, customers specify how many patties, beginning with double up to the quint burger. Crazy Jim's slogan is "Cheaper than food," and it is pretty cheap - five bucks will buy a triple burger, fries and a drink. But be careful - patrons have said that while eating, it is possible to feel your arteries tightening, and unofficial studies suggest that going more than once a month just could be detrimental to good health."
Next time I am up there you can be sure I am going to Crazy Jim's- I gotta try it.
